August was an incredibly exciting and busy month for RBYC! Dinghy raft ups, birthdays, movies, diving... the list goes on! So without further ado, here's what's on for September. Feel free to come and join any of our events, and bring your friends and family, the more the merrier!
What's on this month?
Thursday 13th September - Movie night at Sam's Tours 6.45pm screening 'Venus' starring Peter O'Toole, Jodie Whittaker and Leslie Phillips. Life for a pair of veteran actors gets turned upside down after they meet a brash teenager.
Saturday 15th September - RBYC Group Dinner at Palm Bay Bistro from 6.30pm. I'll pop a sign-up sheet on the board for anyone who would like to sit down for a meal together. Anyone's welcome as usual :)
Thursday 20th September - Documentary night at Sam's Tours 6.45pm screening 'Turtle: The Incredible Journey'. A little loggerhead turtle follows in the path of her ancestors on one of the most extraordinary journeys in the natural world. Born on a beach in Florida, she rides the Gulf Stream all the way to the frozen north and ultimately swims around the entire North Atlantic to Africa and back to the beach where she was born.
Dinner will be El Mexican. Sign up sheet for will go up on the board a couple of days prior. Please ensure you have your order in by Wednesday as I order the night before.
Tuesday 23rd September - Games night at Sam's Tours 7.00pm! It's been months since our last Games Night, so please come along for potential hilarity and frustration and bring along any board games you have you think we might like to play.
Thursday 27th September - Movie night at Sam's Tours 6.45pm screening the comedy new release 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel', starring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith. British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.
Dinner for Marigold Hotel will be delicious bento boxes from The Taj, bento Indian style that is. Order sheet will go up on the notice board a couple of days before the screening.
Friday 28th September - Palau Night Market at Bethlehem Park from 5-9pm. Join us for some delicious local cuisine, craft and music :)
RBYC Online
Other important updates for RBYC this month include our updated Blog which proudly displays the new Welcome Pack for visiting yachts and associated maps of the harbour and Koror. Please visit our blog, and if you're a blogger we'd love you to follow us too. We can be found online at http://rbycpalau.blogspot.com/. We're in the process of getting the Welcome Pack information up on a variety of additional sites such as Noon-site, Seven Seas and Marshall Islands Yacht Club. If you're aware of any other sites you think this great information pack would be useful for yachties to find please email me their details and I'll get in contact with them and get the information up on their sites too. Also if you'd like a soft copy of the Welcome Pack and the maps I'd be happy to email them to you directly.
Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook and spread the word! https://www.facebook.com/RoyalBelauYachtClub.RBYC.Palau. Photos from our diving in August, and also our events will be up on Facebook shortly. Please check the page and tag yourself in any photos you like.
Waterfall Cove Raft Up - We'd like to see how many yachts would be interested in taking their boats out for a raft up at Waterfall Cove. This would be an overnight event. A sign up sheet will go on the notice board at Sam's. Please list if you're interested in taking your boat, and if you haven't got a boat, please write if you'd like to be stowed away on one :)
Reminder to all boats:
Trash Disposal: RBYC members may dispose of normal household trash in the trash area at the road entrance to Sam’s Tours. All trash must be boxed or bagged securely to ease handling and prevent spills. Disposal of hazardous materials such as engine oil, transmission fluid, yacht batteries, etc. is not permitted.
Topside Service Station (part of Midtown Service Center) will accept uncontaminated engine oil, transmission fluid or used yacht batteries for disposal at no charge. Call in advance: 488-4338. If unsure of how to dispose of hazardous waste, call the Environmental Quality Protection Board at 488-1639 or 488-3600.
Old Hose Wanted!
If anyone has any, or knows of any establishment in Palau that would like to donate some old hose, we require it to ring around the Dinghy Dock as a bumper. Any leads that could be forwarded on to me to follow up would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great week ahead!
The RBYC Team!
